Dwyane Wade couldn’t care less about the public’s opinion about the way he is raising his children. However, as a public figure, he understands that he has the platform to speak about pressing issues and can really make a change.
Zion Wade has come under fire multiple times this year. First, for attending the Miami Pride Parade and most recently for sporting a crop top and fake nails in a family photo.
Gabrielle Union has been very vocal when it comes to defending her stepson from haters and Dwyane has already explained to others that they support Zion.
In a new episode of Showtime’s All the Smoke podcast, the athlete reveals that his son is in the early stages of transitioning.
The former Miami Heat player starts by talking about how Zion has been different from a young age and how he reacted.

‘I had to look myself in the mirror when my son at the time was 3 years old and me and my wife started having conversations about us noticing that he wasn’t on the boy vibe that Zaire [Wade’s other son] was on. And, I had to look myself in the mirror and say, ‘What if your son come home and tell you he’s gay? What are you going to do? How are you going to be? How are you going to act? It ain’t about him. He knows who he is. It’s about you. Who are you?’
Wade then goes on to refer to the 12-year-old as ‘she.’
‘I have watched my son from day one become into what she now is becoming into. Nothing changes of my love and nothing changes of my responsibility.’
He goes on to say: ‘Everybody get used to it, man. This is the new normal. So if anybody different, we looked at as different. You know what I’m saying? The ones that don’t understand it. The ones that don’t get it. The ones that are stuck in a box. You’re different. Not the people that are out here living their lives, man.’
