BBC Radio 1 is set to revamp its lineup with fresh faces in 2024, introducing new roles for Jack Saunders, Sian Eleri, Alyx Holcombe, and Arielle Free, while Clara Amfo transitions to new specials and a BBC Sounds Show.

Jack Saunders is stepping up to host Radio 1’s ‘Future Sounds’ (Monday to Thursday, 18:00), following in the footsteps of iconic presenters like Zane Lowe and Annie Mac. Currently anchoring ‘Future Artists’, Saunders is a well-known voice at major festivals and as the host of The Official Chart. His new journey begins on 15 April.

He said, “All I’ve ever wanted is to host this show on Radio 1. My dreams are now a reality, and I can’t wait to champion new music and be the voice for a new generation of artists.”

Clara Amfo’s New Venture

Clara Amfo, a familiar voice on ‘Future Sounds’, will pass the baton to Saunders as she embarks on producing artist specials for the network and launching a new BBC Sounds Music Show. Celebrated for her interviews with stars like Elton John, Amfo has been a pivotal figure in promoting new talent.

Reflecting on her time, Amfo says, “I’m proud of my work across all shows. I’m energised and excited for my next chapter with the network and beyond!”

Sian Eleri’s New Night-time Show

Succeeding Saunders on ‘Future Artists’, Sian Eleri will helm a new show from April 2024 (Monday to Wednesday, 20:00 – 22:00), spotlighting new artists and bands. Already known for ‘The Chillest Show’ and ‘The Power Down Playlist’, Eleri is thrilled to take on this prestigious time slot.

“I’m overjoyed to land Radio 1’s Future Artists. It’s been a delight covering the show, and I can’t wait to champion the best new artists for our listeners,” says Eleri.

Alyx Holcombe Steps into Indie

Alyx Holcombe will be the new face of Radio 1’s Indie Show (Sunday, 21:00 – 23:00), starting 7 January. Known for her work on the BBC Introducing Rock show, Holcombe has a knack for spotlighting emerging rock, emo, and metal talent.

“I’m absolutely buzzing to be the new face of indie and alternative on Radio 1,” Holcombe exclaims.

Arielle Free’s Dance Show

Starting April 2024, Arielle Free joins the Radio 1 Dance family with a new Thursday night dance show. A key figure in Radio 1’s Ibiza broadcasts and 2023’s Big Weekend in Dundee, Free is set to infuse the airwaves with high-energy dance music.

Free shares, “I’m overjoyed to bring a new dance show to Thursday nights. To launch this as I mark six years with Radio 1 is special. I can’t wait to guide listeners through two hours of musical goodness.”

Aled Haydn-Jones’ Enthusiastic Endorsement

Aled Haydn-Jones, Head of BBC Radio 1, expresses excitement for the new lineup: “Jack was born to host this show. I’m delighted that Sian, Alyx, and Arielle also gain new shows. They join a great line-up of specialist presenters who will spotlight new UK music artists, bands, and DJs.”

He adds, “I’d like to thank Clara for her incredible contribution to Future Sounds. I’m delighted she’s staying with Radio 1 and BBC Music for more artist highlights in the year ahead.”

The reshuffle promises an exciting future for BBC Radio 1, with fresh talent and familiar voices embarking on new adventures to bring diverse and vibrant music to the airwaves.
